My Practice
Hearing how things are from your point of view helps me to understand what hurts and what matters to you. Counselling can be a deep and emotional journey, I hope that you will feel comfortable and supported so that you can speak freely and explore your issues in a meaningful way.
I am an experienced counsellor, supervisor and Focusing trainer with 20 years of therapeutic experience. Previously I worked in a careers office and taught at a nursary school where I was the Special Educational Needs Coordinator. I have 4 adult children.
Working in private practice gives me the flexiblity to offer long or short term therapy depending upon your needs and wishes. Over the years I have also provided counselling and supervision for a number of organisations including drugs and alcohol, gambling, mental health, cancer care, young people, primary school and adult education.
I greatly value my many experiences of working with people who have various backgrounds, identities, cultures and beliefs.
I am a BACP Senior Accredited Counsellor and Supervisor with qualifications in couples counselling and group facilitation. Some years ago a friend introduced me to Focusing. I find that Focusing helps me to understand myself at a deeper level and to move forward in areas where I feel stuck. I was eager to learn more and trained as a Registered Focusing Teacher with the British Focusing Association.
Neurodiversity
Neurodiversity refers to variations in how the brain functions with regards to learning, processing information, sociability, mood and physical coordination. Neurodivergent refers to people whose brains function differently to the majority. There are a number of conditions, each with various characteristics, including Autism, Dyspraxia, Dyslexia, Dyscalculia, Tourette's syndrome, and ADHD.
Neurodivergent people can experience challenges due their particular symptoms and as a result of being neurodivergent in a largely neurotypical society. During counselling we can work with the emotional and relational effects. You might want to explore your experiences at home, school, college and work. Counselling is an opportunity to learn more about yourself, what matters to you, what you want and what you need.
I have completed an online diploma in Autism and 150 hours training in ADHD awareness. I have written about dyspraxia in my Blog.
