Counselling in Stanmore/Harrow and online

Individual Counselling

Counselling provides a safe, non-judgmental space where we attend to your thoughts, feelings and emotions. There is time for us to get to the root of your distress, and to gain clarity regarding your needs and wishes.

My intention is to form a strong and genuine connection so that you feel at ease, and able to speak freely. I am interested in how you experience your issues and the impact that relationships and life situations have upon you. Since I believe that we all know ourselves better than anyone else can, I do not try to direct clients or to impose my views. At the same time, I will share insights that seem to be genuinely helpful.

As counselling continues, you are likely to discover more about yourself and how you relate to others. Becoming increasingly self-aware is often an empowering experience that highlights personal strengths and resources.

Counselling for Young People

The teenage years are a time of physical and psychological change. You may be tackling questions such as: Who am I? What do I want in life? How do I fit in with my friends and family?

Pressures can come from various sources including family breakdown, relationships, bullying, abuse, alcohol and drugs, exams, becoming independent, finding employment and the online environment.

There are messages from the media (sometimes conflicting) about how to look, how to dress and how to be. For some people there are pressures to engage in sexual activity before feeling ready. At times life can feel worrying, stressful, desperate and out of control.

Counselling is an opportunity to speak with a professional about anything that is distressing, confusing and difficult to cope with. You may choose to have a few counselling sessions to help get through a hard time or you might benefit from long term support.

Couples and Family Counselling

When there are problems in our relationships it is common to experience distress, anxiety and anger. Underlying tensions and a loss of trust can make open communication difficult.

Sometimes couples and families have drifted apart and seek a greater sense of companionship and belonging.

We all enter relationships bringing our unique history,

personality, hopes, desires, culture and coping mechanisms. Difficulties can arise from differing opinions, needs and wishes. Additionally, daily pressures and major life events can significantly impact relationships These may be related to: work, and finances, physical and mental health, parenting, and family dynamics, friendships and social life and lack of quality time. Exploring a presenting issue often reveals deeper areas that need attention.

Working with a qualified counsellor provides a safe environment to identify and address the causes of your difficulties and to understand each other's feelings and perspectives. There is time and space for each person to express themselves and to be truly heard. You can also improve how you communicate your views and emotions. As a result of this work, positive changes and clearer ways forward often emerge.
